The big news today is the release of a new revision of the custom firmware for the ps3. A little over a year since Geohot and fail0verflow brought us the 3.55 keys which ultimately lead to many custom firmware releases based on those keys we have a new release from a yet unknown and anonymous hacking group.
It would appear that the latest PS3 Jailbreak 4.11 download is a fully working PS3 Custom Firmware which at this time becasue the ps3 is still on firmware revision 4.11 is still able to go online and even access the store. Of course like last year it will only take sony to patch the exploit using a new firmware and new keys to once again secure their network. But if last year is to be any judge this could take a month or more before the exploit if fully identified and patched out.
This is good news for a ps3 hacking scene that was dying a slow and painfull death with many developers leaving the scene under various clouds vowing never to return. For the future of the people wanting to play their game backups the obvious initial benefit of full psn access no matter how brief it may be is a welcome chance to sync trophies and purchase new DLC. Once PSN is locked down again and it will no doubt be that leaves a whole new raft of recent games that can be played which may even see you through another year and who knows by then we may be looking forward to the PS4 anyway.
For the scene this can only bring new blood. So heres to the future and happy jailbreaking.
